Kanawha Elementary

After the previous Kanawha Elementary School was destroyed by flooding, the Kanawha County Board of Education sought to rebuild at a higher elevation. The New Kanawha Elementary School will be constructed on Wolverton Mountain, requiring an intensive sitework package for tree removal, demolition of several existing structures, grading, site utilities, etc. The sitework package including blasting through a mountain to allow for a mile long driveway to be constructed to give access to the new school site. The massive undertaking involves the construction of a one-story elementary school building featuring classrooms, administrative offices, cafeteria with commercial-grade kitchen, gymnasium including telescoping stands, and accessory spaces. Key features of the structure include insulated concrete-formed load-bearing perimeter walls including brick veneer, concrete floor slab-on-grade, steel roof framing, single-ply membrane roof covering, interior flush wood doors in hollow metal door frames, hollow metal doors and frames, aluminum framed entrances and windows, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
